Corneli Van Rooyen

The 2026 Bali Hope Ultra (AU)

I’m running 84km overnight across Bali in The Bali Hope Ultra to help transform education in North Bali. Through my effort, I’m fundraising for Bali Children Foundation starting with the renovation and revitalization of SDN 5 Gobleg Elementary. Your support will also reach local kindergartens, strengthen all Gobleg schools and open doors to tertiary scholarships for youth.

What Your Support Will Do

Every step our runners take in this life-changing overnight ultramarathon is for these children. Funds raised will go directly toward improving schools in Gobleg, creating vibrant, engaging and empowering environments where children can learn, grow and dream big.

I believe that every donation, no matter the amount, can make a real difference. Please join me in creating lasting change.

How an Instagram Scroll Turned Into an Ultra Marathon

Monday 1st Jun
My name is Corneli, and I'm someone who believes growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones.

I'll be honest, my Instagram algorithm deserves at least some of the credit (or blame) for me signing up for the Bali Hope Ultra.

Like most people, I was mindlessly scrolling and then the event popped up on my feed. The combination of an incredible challenge, an amazing cause, and the opportunity to make a real difference made it feel like a no-brainer.

What's funny is that, until that moment, running an ultra marathon had never crossed my mind. Not once. A marathon was already out of my league, and an ultra seemed like something reserved for a special breed of people who genuinely enjoy suffering for extended periods of time.

But the more I looked into it, the more it made sense. It combined so many things I'm passionate about: staying active, pushing my physical and mental limits, travelling, connecting with people, and most importantly, supporting the next generation through education.

So here we are. What started as an Instagram suggestion has somehow turned into a commitment to run across Bali. Whether that's evidence of a great algorithm or questionable decision-making is still up for debate.

As the Bali Hope Ultra gets closer, I'm excited to get stuck into the training, share the journey, and start raising funds to support the incredible work of the Bali Children Foundation. There will no doubt be plenty of early mornings, sore legs, questionable decisions, and lessons learned along the way, but knowing that every training session, every kilometer, and every dollar raised will help create opportunities for the next generation makes it all worthwhile.

Thank you for being part of the journey and for supporting a cause that has the power to change lives.
